The United Church of Canada has developed a classification plan and retention schedule for all employees to follow and use. This plan applies to both paper and electronic records
The file classification plan organizes records together by function in a records series. The record series is further divided at the secondary level by activity. Each series and activity is given a number. For example:
300 – Finance
310 – Accounting
The records retention schedule is a key tool for the units of The United Church of Canada to manage their records effectively. It establishes standardized retention rules for records and controls how these records are disposed. It determines the active period of the records life and when the record may be transferred to inactive storage.
Employees of The United Church of Canada are responsible for managing the records they own or control and must adhere to records management policies and standards.
